Papers, 1838-1905.

Correspondence, printed articles, transcripts, clippings, notebooks, and scrapbooks. The correspondence, 1842-1905, is mostly to Squier. Correspondents include Francis Parkman, David Dixon Porter, and Joseph Henry. There is also diplomatic correspondence, some in Spanish, and letters to and from Squier's nephew Frank Squier. Printed articles include copies of Squier's contributions to the ENCYCLOPAEDIA BRITANNICA on Central and South American topics, and there is material from the Honduras Interoceanic Railway Company. Scrapbooks and notebooks include an 1839 diary; Squier's poems; reviews of his work; archaeological writings, apparently copied from other sources; and the 1849 charter of a company to build a canal across Nicaragua. There are also drawings and maps of archaeological sites in Central America. The microfilm contains a listing of correspondence, biographical material, and correspondence.
